About the game

Hope in the City is a narrative mystery game set in Northeast China. High school seniors are fretting about the impending Gaokao national college entrance exams, but 17-year-old Hope Song was managing to keep her cool. After all, she's going overseas for art school. But Hope's world is thrown upside down when she comes home to find her apartment ransacked and her parents missing. With no authority, no resources, and nowhere to turn for answers, Hope relies on her artist's eye.

As Hope explores the city of Shenyang her observations are captured as sketches in her notebook. Players must find hidden connections between disparate thoughts to form insights and make breakthroughs in the investigation – each connection unlocking new locations, dialogue, and insight, bringing Hope closer to the truth behind her parents' sudden disappearance. Without traditional detective tools, the game challenges players to notice what others miss and turn artistic observation into understanding. Will Hope's gift be enough?
